About Us imageAbout Us image

Rainbow Cottage is a 49 place not-for-profit Community Education and Care Service, hidden in the heart of Belconnen.

With bright open rooms and ample sized natural and man-made yards, it offers Quality Education and Care to children aged birth to 5 years, in one of three age groups.

Rainbow Cottage believes in a holistic approach to Early Education and Care.

We believe that children learn through play based experiences and environments, with educators who have a strong focus on each child’s emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency.

Rainbow Cottage believes

* that children learn best through a combination of play based experiences, natural and man-made environments and by using intentional teaching strategies based on a child’s interest and abilities;

* that children should have a strong connection to family, community and the world around them and by fostering these connections of past and present, we build on diversity of culture, abilities and attributes;

* in a partnership approach to early education and care between our families and our highly trained educators, who have a strong focus on each child’s emerging autonomy;

* in providing small, personal, age appropriate groups for children to develop trusting relationships with educators and peers and to engage with other children of different ages and abilities; and

* in promoting a culture of professionalism among our staff and encouraging personal and professional growth through training and support, including of students on work placements.

Molly's Family
Parents

We’re a small family newly moved from Beijing, China, to Canberra Australia. It’s been 3+ months now since we started our new life here. Our daughter, Molly, was 2 year and 4 months old when we first started to send her to Rainbow Cottage for care, and she didn’t understand any English back then. We knew she was in safe and caring hands of course, but the separation anxiety hit her and me really hard. Then we also couldn’t help worrying about her because she didn’t understand any English, let alone speak the language. Since day one, our morning goodbyes had been filled with Molly’s loud crying and tears, and a heavy heart on my side. But Kerry and her loving team are so resourceful, they have experience and very clever ways to communicate with Molly. And always, always, they extremely warmly and patiently reassure us by letting us know Molly’s progress, which sometimes is a little and sometimes are leaps and bounds (yes, I borrowed some of Trudy’s words here 😊). Gradually, she can speak a few words in English now, and the other day she was even captured singing English songs over and over in the center! Those videos will be precious memories for our family! And, after about 24 days of less than 12 weeks, this morning, for the first time, Molly and I quietly said our goodbyes, without any tears or anxiety. It absolutely made my day! Thanks so much, Rainbow Cottage! You feel like real family to us, and we deeply appreciate it!!! ♡♡♡

Parents

As first time parents, we were very anxious about leaving our little one in the care of anyone else. The first moment we stepped into Rainbow Cottage all our apprehension disappeared! The centre is welcoming and warm. The staff are professional and genuinely care about our son. We love the regular updates we get via the app and of course the photos of our son learning and achieving each and every day! We couldn’t recommend Rainbow Cottage more highly.

Parents

Our daughter has been lucky enough to be cared for at Rainbow Cottage since she was eight months old. We credit the care and support of the staff, and the learning experiences that Olivia has been exposed to at Rainbow Cottage, as fundamental to her development into the happy, confident and loving child that she is. Sometimes it isn’t easy (for parents!) to leave your children in childcare – but we have been so lucky to be able to rely on the skills and experience of highly-trained and trusted staff to guide us through what could have been a difficult transition for our family into the reality of working parents. There is nothing better than a detailed learning story on the Rainbow Cottage app to see understand how your child is thriving in the care of a creative and enthusiastic team with access to stimulating environments and experiences. Thank you Rainbow Cottage!

Chloe
Student

I am a student studying Diploma of Early Education and care and am carrying out my practical placement at Rainbow Cottage. The service is bright and cheerful and the educators are nothing short of the same. I have been made to feel welcome and supported in my studies and been given a very high quality of information and support to complete my studies to the highest standard. I am very grateful to be learning from some of the best educators in the industry and am certain that with their help I will be of the same high standards in the future.
